INITIAL RESPONSE

When relocation or evacuation is necessary the Chicago Fire Department will make an announcement and provide direction.

  • Remain calm
  • Alert others in the area of need to relocate or evacuate
  • Listen for instructions from overhead announcement
  • Move out of the immediate area as directed by Chicago Fire Department
  • Those able to walk down the stairs, leave the building through the closest stairwell
  • Do not use the elevator
  • Once outside the building move to your assigned meeting place: in front of the parking garage across the street
  • Account for all residents, parents, visitors, and staff
  • Wait for instructions from the Chicago Fire Department before re-entry.

 

SECONDARY RESPONSE

& FOLLOW UP

When in your assigned gathering location

  • Suggested evacuation priority: ambulatory, assisted, then dependent/most difficult to move.
  • Move dependent/most difficult to move to the stairwell which is a safe area of refuge
  • Move ambulatory and assisted patients to the balcony outside the building which is a safe area of refuge
  • Clinical Staff take all pertinent resident care items when relocating or evacuating
  • Keep to the right when relocating or evacuating
  • Report any missing person to Chicago Fire Department
  • Wait for instructions from the Chicago Fire Department before re-entry.
  • Call Almost Home Kids Operations Director
  • Wait for instructions from the Chicago Fire Department before re-entry.
